Whilst walking past New Walk Centre today I spotted three city cabinet members – Vi Dempster, Mohammed Dawood and Paul Westley – puffing away on cigarettes by a doorway.

I acknowledged them, and they waved back. But after Cllr Westley’s recent £80 fine for littering outside the town hall it would have been childish and unprofessional to shout over: “Make sure you don’t drop your cigarette this time.” But I did.
